No more waiting around for heatmaps to generate - just click on the button in the session recording. Read more about the nifty improvements we’ve made, and use them to your benefit.

The post Introducing Page analytics appeared first on Smartlook Blog.

]]>
Page analytics generate heatmaps in just a few seconds so you can see how every one of your CTAs performs, giving you a deeper understanding of the issues and problems your users may be experiencing.

Say you are reviewing a session recording of a client and notice that the bottom of your page is not loading properly. In this case, click on the page analytics and check if you can see clicks on the bottom page. No clicks? That’s a sign that the problem may be with your webpage and you need to further analyze the situation with developers.

Let’s examine how this tool will help you with product analysis:

Quick solution for evaluating product changes

Page analytics are more than suitable for evaluating product changes. Define the period you’re interested in, and heatmaps will be generated strictly from the data collected during this time.

Changed your UI recently? Select a time range that covers the before and after and immediately compare heatmaps.

Different heatmaps for different pages

Adjust the clustering level of a heatmap by clicking on the top right button.

By sliding to MIN, your heatmaps will show points where users clicked directly, including how many times. These heatmaps are an ideal solution for static pages where elements remain in the same place.

On the other side, when sliding to MAX, your heatmaps will show you an approximation of all clicks on each element. This comes in handy for dynamic pages or elements that may appear in slightly different positions. A typical example is a floating window or a play button on a video.

Choose a BALANCED clustering level if your page combines static and dynamic elements.

Distinctive visually, exact in numbers

At first glance, the colors show you which element is most clicked on. If you’re looking for the exact number of clicks, move your mouse to the specific element, and the number will appear automatically.

Easy to navigate

Locate the most clicked on element immediately using the Elements section on the right side of the recording. Click on the element and use it as a filter to find other recordings with the same element or use it to create a new event.

Page analytics is suitable for anyone working on product performance and analysis. It helps product managers determine weak points, and allows UX designers to access heatmaps of any pages in record time.

Like our page analytics, or see room for improvement? Keep in mind, this is the beta version – we’re still working on it. Leave us feedback so we can improve and make it everything you wished for.

Introducing in-player DevTools https://www.smartlook.com/blog/introducing-in-player-devtools/ Tue, 16 May 2023 11:01:15 +0000 https://www.smartlook.com/blog/?p=7234 Recently, we introduced our new player. In addition to a cleaner interface, we've prepared a special treat for developers - improved DevTools.

The post Introducing in-player DevTools appeared first on Smartlook Blog.

]]>
Let’s take a closer look at the 3 key components that make up our DevTools.

Console (websites only)

We kept it similar to the console found in website browsers to minimize the learning curve. Spot the events that have already occurred (blue rows), including those that are about to take place in the session recording (lighter rows). To make things easier, you can choose color-coded levels: verbose, info (blue), warnings (yellow), errors (red). Additionally, you can use the filter option.

The console helps with the debugging process by allowing you to see what took place if the session recordings show something unexpected.

Network (website + mobile)

Website

When implementing Network tracking on your website project, choose from either simple or advanced network capturing.

  • Simple
    • Set it up using Project settingsRecording tab DevToolsCapture network traffic
    • Network traffic is tracked using the browser’s API
    • Basic information only – URL, duration
    • No request/response bodies and headers
  • Advanced
    • Set it up by activating Simple first
    • Inspect request/response bodies and headers
    • Further filter data by type into Fetch/XHR, Assets/media, JavaScript, or other assets
    • Set it up through web SDK tracking code

Mobile

The Advanced Network available for mobile projects

  • Advanced
    • Set it up through mobile SDK
    • Information about both response/request bodies and headers
    • Ideal solution for debugging problems involving the login process
    • Possibility to filter request and response data through robust API

Performance (websites only)

Discover core website vitals measured by Google Benchmark and get an idea of how your site performs in the user’s browser. Metrics include – First Paint, First Contentful Paint, Cumulative Layout Shift, Largest Contentful Paint and First Input Delay. To learn more about what each metric represents, click on the information button next to it.

DevTools are ideal for developers and customer support specialists who need to identify problems ASAP. Use the DevTools to determine what took place and send user sessions to your development team for review. With DevTools, you don’t have to be a developer to track and spot errors. Ensure a spotless customer experience with minimum error.

Introducing a new player https://www.smartlook.com/blog/introducing-a-new-player/ Wed, 19 Apr 2023 12:13:03 +0000 https://www.smartlook.com/blog/?p=7123 We gave our session recording player a makeover. Fewer buttons and easier orientation — everything you need for quality insight into user behavior.

The post Introducing a new player appeared first on Smartlook Blog.

]]>
After some thorough research, we enhanced the player experience to make work-life easier. Thanks to the new design, the player is now much cleaner and easy to navigate.

The new player
The old player

5 things you can expect from the new player

  • Better segment and user session navigation
  • The ability to pin different properties (device, op. system, location,…) to the top of the player and adjust it according to your preference
  • Customizable for various departments
  • Easy event identification thanks to a cleaner timeline
  • A reduced number of buttons
  • Different modes for different teams – Player, DevTools

Don’t be afraid of getting lost in the data. All actions are color coded (with the option to tick/untick), so you don’t waste time monitoring events that aren’t worth your time.

The menu showing user actions performed in a session recording

The Activities menu that displays user actions is now located on the right-hand side of the recording window. If an action is “event-worthy,” simply click on it to create an event right away. To find out more about a specific user, click User properties → Show all user details. For developers, we’ve prepared a special section — DevTools. Here, they can find everything they need to identify and fix bugs properly.

The new player is intended for anyone who uses Smartlook’s session recordings. Product managers, UX designers, and customer support will enjoy our new player, complete with adjustable properties. DevTools help developers spot and fix crashes. By making it cleaner and easy to navigate, it saves teams countless hours of time.

Our users love it; you sure will too.

“Really liking this new player. The layout makes more sense for me. Love the player track at the bottom, more easily identify events.” – Caitlin Weir, UX/UI designer

“New player is great! Much better layout than the old one, well done” – Karl Roche, product designer

”It’s good, clean and the information representation is more clean and easy to find” – Muhammad Adnan

Give it a try now and let us know what you think.

Pssst! A dynamic heatmaps feature is coming out soon. View heatmaps in the player as you review user sessions.

Introducing crash reports https://www.smartlook.com/blog/introducing-crash-reports/ Tue, 11 Apr 2023 13:09:55 +0000 http://3.70.91.52/blog/introducing-crash-reports-beta/ Stop replicating crashes. Instead, watch recordings of sessions where a crash occurred to see what preceded it. A picture is worth 1,000 words - this is especially true when talking about crash reporting.

The post Introducing crash reports appeared first on Smartlook Blog.

]]>
If you’re a mobile app developer, you’re probably using a tool for crash reporting. But what if we told you that you can see much more than just the part where a crash occurred? Let’s take a closer look at how crash reports work, including why you should use them.

Smartlook’s crash reports feature is now available on both Android and iOS.

Crash reports enable you to:

  • Review the exact steps that led to a crash through session recordings
  • Access stack trace reports for quick bug identification and detailed crash analytics
  • Stop reproducing crashes manually
  • Mark resolved crashes as ‘done’
  • Increase app stability and its position in app store/google play

Existing crash reporting tools only locate crashes and detect bugs. They don’t tell you why a crash occurred. QA teams must reproduce crashes and report them to developers manually — what a waste of precious time! Our crash report feature – connected to session recordings – displays everything you need to know to successfully fix bugs

Crash reports are primarily made by developers, for developers — that’s why they’re great for accurately tracking crashes. They also enable QAs to ditch the manual crash reproduction process. Customer support and POs also benefit from a better understanding of user behavior. In other words, crash reports give you more insight into bugs. If a user reports a bug, you can see what occurred during their session, thanks to their unique ID.

Crash reports can now be found in the main left menu of your SL app.

When A/B testing, revenue insights show you which way of doing things produces the most revenue – which can strongly influence your future product decisions. If you want to see how your project is performing, simply check how much money you’ve lost in the missed opportunity section. You can even view estimated losses over the next twelve months under the annualized missed opportunity tab.

Funnel with revenue insights switch turned on

Revenue insights are a great fit if you want to:

  • Get a clear picture of how much money you’re losing annually
  • View average order values
  • Determine entire funnel revenue

To set it up, you’ll need to assign value to specific events via the API. Once done, you can create a funnel (or adjust existing ones), adding events with properties. When the funnel is set, the revenue insights switch (pictured above) will automatically appear top-right of the funnel. Switch it on to see the actual monetary value of your conversions

Setting up the funnel – adding an event with a property/value

This feature acts as a guiding hand to those who work with quantitative data. Product managers, growth specialists, UX designers, and even marketing specialists can use this data to determine which purchase process steps need to be optimized and improved

Understand which parts of your funnel are a gold mine and which aren’t bringing in the revenue you want. Check, analyze, and make data-driven decisions. The new revenue insights feature is available to all Smartlook users.

When working with loads of sensitive data, safety is a priority. Explore the world of next-generation app recording with our newest improvement – wireframe recording.

A native recording tool is a powerful way to obtain qualitative data. However, you need to define what should and shouldn’t be recorded (except text inputs and web views that are sensitive by default), which may be tedious and time-consuming. Additionally, native recording data privacy is challenged by Compose/SwiftUI applications.

Wireframe mode is Smartlook’s new way of collecting qualitative data. Put simply, every bit of information remains hidden. Essentially, you’re only recording abstract representations of an app that still provides you with the essential information for user behavior analysis. This approach not only saves time but minimizes the collection of personal data that may be subject to the requirements of GDPR or CCPA. Its unique function allows you to record Compose/SwiftUI applications and handle data safely.

Why should you switch to wireframe recordings?

  • They’re compliant by default
  • They allow you to securely record Compose and SwiftUI applications.
  • They have a minimal influence on app performance thanks to lower CPU usage

Although the native recording remains default, you can switch from native to wireframe recording by setting a different rendering mode.

This update is useful for your team members who work with session recordings: developers, product managers, UX professionals, and even your customer support team.

Introducing Survicate integration https://www.smartlook.com/blog/introducing-survicate-integration/ Wed, 31 Aug 2022 07:37:00 +0000 http://3.70.91.52/blog/introducing-survicate-integration/ With Smartlook, you can analyze how users behave on your website - with Survicate, you can let your users have their voice in your website improvement by collecting feedback through short surveys.

The post Introducing Survicate integration appeared first on Smartlook Blog.

]]>
We aim to fulfill our users’ wishes, so we decided to integrate Survicate with Smartlook. Survicate is a platform that directly brings you customer feedback through microsurveys. Now you have even more data for the qualitative analysis you need.

Do you use Smartlook for user behavior analysis and another platform for taking microsurveys? That could get messy – sometimes you don’t even know where to look. With the Smartlook + Survicate integration, all your data remains in one place and you can still enjoy every feature you need, including data from microsurveys. Create a better user experience for your visitors by streamlining your tech stack with Smartlook.

How can microsurveys help you?

Say you designed a new sign-up flow. But for some reason, even though your design and UX teams did their best, the number of negative reviews increased. To find out what’s frustrating your users, you set a quick survey on the sign-up page so they have the option to provide feedback.

  1. Thanks to our integration with Survicate, you can create a survey within minutes – the results are displayed in your Smartlook app.
  2. After receiving a relevant number of responses, you can filter out the answers that are important to you via the Smartlook app
  3. Go to the event section in your Smartlook app.
  4. In Custom events, choose the event “survicate.questionanswered” where you find answers to your question
  5. Filter the answers in “Custom event with property” and opt for an “answer” with property value “1” (considering “5” is a 5-star rating and “1” is the worst regarding customer satisfaction with the new design). Remember, it’s the negative reviews that will help you improve your website accordingly.
  1. By watching the session recordings of users who selected option 1, you can pinpoint the problems they encountered and eliminate them.

Since it’s native integration, no 3rd party is involved which gives you better control and easy access to survey-related data without having to manually switch between platforms. The streamlined integration also allows you to be aligned with your data governance processes.

Product managers, marketers, and UX designers will benefit from this integration the most since they can ask their users everything they need to know and receive clear feedback. The integration is possible only for those who have our startup or business subscription which allows them to use API and user identification.

Integration with Survicate provides you with more qualitative insights regarding your user’s behavior on your website and establishes a personal relationship with your users. The more data you have, the better your product will be!
